The Challenge
A client approached Bono Hair with a request for a natural-looking yet highly durable men’s toupee, tailored for an end-user requiring maximum realism and long-term wear. The customer needed a solution that would imitate hair growing from the scalp without visible knots, while also being robust enough to last for several months of continuous use. Given the thicker silicone base, the client also needed assistance in masking edge thickness and achieving a seamless blend with the scalp.
The Solution
To address the client’s needs, Bono Hair crafted a fully custom injected silicone skin toupee, model code IST, featuring silicone poly all over the base. The system was made according to a personalized template supplied by the client to ensure a snug fit and full scalp coverage. Hair was injected into the silicone skin, not knotted, creating a natural visual effect that mimics hair growing directly from the scalp. This method ensures a knotless, realistic appearance and is one of the most advanced options for customers prioritizing invisibility.
The Customized Hair Color
For the highest precision in hair color matching, the client provided a hair sample. Bono Hair’s technicians used this sample to replicate the color accurately using high-grade Chinese virgin hair, which takes color well and maintains its softness and strength. This ensured a perfect match with the client’s natural hair and a seamless appearance when worn.
The Customized Hair Length
The unit was designed with 8 inches of Chinese virgin hair, offering enough length for personalized cutting and light styling. The hair texture was natural straight, which complements the realistic look of injected hair systems and allows for simple day-to-day maintenance.
The Customized Size
The base was constructed according to a customer-submitted head template, allowing for a precise, personalized fit. This ensured secure adhesion and natural scalp alignment, essential for users with complete baldness or sensitive skin.
The Customized Base
This system featured an injected silicone base—a traditional model known for its thickness, strength, and longevity. Hair was injected strand by strand into the silicone, following freestyle hair direction to mimic natural growth. To soften the transition between hair and skin, Bono Hair added under hair around the edges, effectively concealing the thick silicone border and improving realism. While the thicker base offers exceptional durability, it is not recommended for brushed-back hairstyles due to the visible edge.
The Special Requirements
This was a fully custom-made order, developed to exact client specifications, including base shape, hair direction, and hair sample color matching. While this version was built with a thick traditional silicone base, Bono Hair also informed the client of an alternative thin-skin injected model with anti-slip silicone coating—ideal for cancer patients or those who prefer daily on/off wear without glue. Production time followed standard lead time (8–10 weeks), and rush service was available upon request.
